How much did cars weigh in the 50's? Like a 50's Buick. They used thicker metal sheets. I want sweet Jesus' precise answers only.
I have always thought that the "official weights" of a car, i.e. what the manufacturer publishes or what is used by the government for tax purposes was always artificial high. The obvious purpose was to make you think you are getting a lot of car and the government to collect more revenue. We have weighed our cars on a local truck scale and it is always much less than the published data. Of course, they may be weighing way low so that the truckers do not get tickets for overloading. I think the true weight of a car is a secret because it affects performance etc.
